Indian society is a patriarchal one. Women under the patriarchal pressure and control were subjected to much more brunt and social ostracism. They are discriminated and biased due to their sex. Many of the women writers of the twentieth century have started to represent through their works, the quest for the individuality of the female in the Indian society. Manju Kapur has joined the women writers like Arundathi Roy, Anita Desai, Hariharan and Shobha De on whom the image of the suffering but stoic women eventually breaking traditional boundaries had a significant impact.
